Sheila Stone is a ceramic artist,and painter. She is a graduate of the Ceramic Department in the Limerick College of Art and Design. Her work is diverse and it varies from thrown tableware to sculptural pieces. She has participated in many group ceramic exhibitions.
In recent years her sculptural work has reflected political and environmental issues
In 2017 she created an art installation of 5,200 ceramic boats. Each one represents a migrant who drowned while trying to escape across the Mediterranean in 2016. It is called Charon’s Boats. It was on display in the Bourne Vincent Gallery in the University of Limerick and also in the Source Gallery in Thurles.
Her concern for our wonderful marine life inspired some of her recent multimedia pieces.
