John Quinn

John Quinn is a ceramic artist from Limerick City. He attained an Hons degree from LSAD in 1993. Inspired by the economic downturn, his first body of work was “Metropolis”. Cityscapes which,  under close inspection were composed mostly of burnt out & boarded up buildings.

Next was “The Colony” inspired by the mass exodus of young Irish people, forced to leave home and search for a better life abroad.
His latest body of work called “Tugboat” is comprised of Rusty, deteriorated vessels, well past retirement age.

Inspired by Architecture and the socio-economic problems in Ireland, he uses quirky buildings to represent people. An individual or sometimes whole communities are placed aboard a vessel which balances precariously on dark menacing waves.
