Aoife Slattery
Aoife Slattery graduated from Limerick School of art and design in 2013 and has been practising in ceramics since. Her studio is based in Ballymorris just a short drive from Limerick City.
Aoifes works primarily with white earthenware clay using an unusual printing process to create her unique designs. Coloured slips are applied to a plaster slab by paint brushes, sponges, slip trailers and other tools, each tool making a unique mark. Clay is poured on top, when dry the clay is cut into shapes and then folded.
Aoifes forms are often determined from this process. Features such as the fold detail on her bowls or the wrap around tear drop shape of her coffee cups are a direct progression to her decorative process.
‘I Love this printing process and more often than not it is my starting point. It combines many of my favourite ways to work. Such as fast intuitive brush strokes and messy blobs of coloured sponge work. It’s quick and playful, allowing the mind to let go.
As a result my work combines all of my favourite things I want to see in a pot, striking colour pallets, unusual shapes and patterns and of course functionality. I strive to make contemporary ware that evokes a sense of playfulness but still is a functional day to day object for your home.’
