helen costello

My work is centred on my love of the found object and my sense of value and beauty in these discarded items. These rejected items intrigue me, bringing with them memories of creating, mending and craftsmanship. These basic values, in my work, allow me to explore/communicate the appreciative value that can be gleaned from found ‘treasure’.  Connecting the viewer to objects of seemingly little consequence, where object memory and user necessity ascribe new curiosity, relevance and pleasure in repurposed existence.

I hope to create the missing links that allow me to communicate a new sustainability, in my sculptural work, through the relationship of the clay with the found object. Transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, allowing the object to resonate its magic.
