Ann McBride
Ann McBride is a graduate from LSAD in Ceramic Design. My background is in graphic design and print and these disciplines are hugely beneficial in creating unique decorated ceramic work. In using illustration and watercolours to create the narrative and finding the form which best articulates the message I am trying to convey, I have found an excellent ‘canvas’ in ceramics.
There is a subversive theme running through my work. I chose to overturn the classical image of the female, by applying tattoos that reference a range of emotions ie. love, betrayal, jealousy. I want to subvert the common narrative by altering how women have been historically portrayed.
Continuing the theme of subverting the familiar, the narrative is revealed through the layering, interaction and use of a series of everyday objects.
