Siobhán is a Ceramic Visual Artist who has considerable experience in her field, making work since the 1980s. She has been a member of Limerick Ceramic Artists since its foundation and is also a member of Ceramics Ireland. Siobhán also worked as an Art Teacher for many years and is a graduate from the Limerick School of Art and Design. She continues to make work, in her studio at Mulcair Dr., Annacotty, Co. Limerick, participating mainly in local and national exhibitions.
Siobhán’s ceramic work is hand built, using variations of the traditional techniques of coiling, pinching and slab building, in a contemporary way. Works may be free standing vessels, abstract forms or wall pieces. Constructed forms will often display a variety of surfaces from smooth to heavily textured, or a combination of glazed and dry.
‘Clay as a material has always interested me, its tactile nature, how it changes from its wet plastic state to bone dry and how through firing, clay ultimately becomes ceramic. Processing of materials in ancient times have left us wonderful legacies such as a rocky landscape like the Burren. Constant weathering combined with human traces continue to transform our landscape often adding elements of a hybrid nature. Influences from my environment, e.g. inland countryside and rocky seascapes such as the Burren continue to inform my work.’
